Globalized Culture/Think As Historian

Think As Historian: THINK AS A HISTORIAN: COMPARE PERIODS Of GLOBALIZATION

The globalization that began in about 1960 was actually the second wave of globalization. The first occurred between the years 1870 and 1914, engendered by the Industrial Revolution and the search for new markets and brought to a halt by the beginning of World War I.

Explain how the globalization that began in 1960 is similar to and different from that which began in about 1870 and ended in 1914. Consider the following questions as you explain the broader historical context for each.

1. How reciprocal were the exchanges?

2. Who led the way?

3. What motives drove the globalization?

4. What role do knowledge economies play?
